1964 was sadly the last year of hardtop station wagons being produced in the U.S. with Chrysler being the last car maker to grace us with these pillarless beauties. There were less than 2,000 Dodge Custom 880 wagons built and only a handful that could possibly remain, so this Dodge wagon is a pretty rare sight. With an asking price of $10,750, you can find this big Dodge on Craigslist in Berthoud, Colorado.
The front seat has been redone which included new padding and although it looks nice, I would prefer to have seen it recovered in original matching material. New carpets were also installed as well as a new cargo mat in the back. The original door panels and dash look to be in nice shape but the headliner will need to be replaced.
Clean design with plenty of bright work to be seen on the handsome dash of the ’64 Dodge. 1964 was also the last year of Chrysler’s famed pushbutton transmission.
The 3 bar spinner hubs and the wider whitewalls are a nice touch. You can see the described rust which isn’t too bad. If the floors are solid as described, minimal body work to fix the rust and the crease on the rear fender would be needed before prepping for paint.
The cars mileage isn’t given but the 361/265 V8 is original to the car and has recently been pulled, resealed and repainted in a high quality finish. The car is said to run well with the Torqueflight transmission shifting effortlessly.
Although the seller is asking $10,750, there does seem to be some room to negotiate. The seller says ‘bring cash, make an offer and drive away!”
