With good styling and economy during a period of rising oil prices gas shortages, Chevy Vegas were very popular in the 70′s but it didn’t take long for quality and rust issues to doom the Vega. Fitted with an inline 4, performance wasn’t impressive unless you went with the Cogsworth option that was offered for a few years.
The previous owner of this Kammback GT Vega which is listed on Craigslist near Salem, Oregon at a price of $12,000 embarked on an extensive project 16 years ago to research and convert the Vega to a V8. Ultimately a 1996 Z-28 350c.i. V8 was fitted along with loads of performance features that were documented in a 32 page portfolio.
No mention of a body restoration is described but the seller does state that the car is rust free and that extensive rust proofing was included when the car was converted years ago.
The seller states that the conversion included a new interior throughout, including; all Seats, interior panels, console and carpets. The pictures indicate that everything inside looks to be in excellent shape.
A ‘modern’ 1996 Z-28 350c.i. V8 is what powers the Vega, certainly an ambitious choice for a 1970′s econobox.
