Hardtop Heaven: 1962 Chrysler Newport

Is there anything nicer than a vintage pillarless station wagon? I’ve always wondered why they has such a short run.  Rambler made the first 4 door hardtop station wagon in 1956 and for a short time just about every car manufacturer offered pillarless wagons but it was Chrysler who made them the longest and they may have made the prettiest hardtop wagons. This 1962 Chrysler Newport station wagon looks like an unbelievable find at $8,000. You can find it on Craigslist in Woodstock, Illinois.
I don’t know what the deal is with Craigslist ads but you would think they have a word limit! So many ads offer very little information this one included. Here’s what we do know: ‘78,803 miles, all original, no rust, runs great, 331 motor’. That’s it! There’s so much more to be told about this car but then again maybe it’s a seller who inherited it and just isn’t a car guy. For starters the ‘331 motor’  is probably the 361. Take a look at the body. Absolutely rust and ding free; this just isn’t possible on a ’62 Chrysler residing in the Midwest. Come around to the back and whoa! It’s a black plate California car. How did this car get to Illinois? If my eyes don’t deceive me, the license plate was last registered in 1997. Hmmm. stored for 20 years!

3 pictures is all we get and these 3 pictures have my imagination running wild! Could the interior be as nice as the exterior? What kind of options are on the car? The seller says it runs great but what lurks under the hood?  A glimpse into the cargo area and we see some spare wheels but is it possible a third row of seating is back there? This one won’t last long and needless to say I’ve sent my inquiry to the seller and am awaiting response.

Update 3/12/2017: I contacted the owner and the car has sold. Someone bought themselves a great car!
