The Mercury Montego was introduced in 1968 as an upscale version on the Comet which it fully supplanted for the 1969 model year. An intermediate Mercury, the Montego offered economy and decent interior room. Make it a wagon and you’ve got yourself a decent family hauler like this 1969 Montego MX. While Montego sedans and coupes were offered as both base and MX trim levels the wagon was only available as a MX. With a 3 on the tree manual transmission and a 250ci 6 cylinder engine this Montego must be one of the lower optioned wagons produced that year which actually adds to its appeal. Listed on Craigslist in Grants Pass, Oregon the owner is asking $5,500 OBO.
The seller doesn’t list the mileage but does describe it as an original survivor with original paint, interior and drivetrain. Pictures show no evidence of rust and an extremely straight body. The chrome and trim look to be in great shape. With only 10,590 Montego wagons there can’t be too many left in original shape like this one.
The front seat definitely needs some attention but the dash, back seat and door panels are in decent shape. The seller recently went through he car mechanically rebuilding the carb and distributor. A tuneup was performed, the fuel tank dropped and cleaned and the transmission was pulled and cleaned as well with new fluids and seals added.

looks to me like the whole front sheet metal has been repainted. was this due to damage or something else?
