True Survivor: 1968 Volkswagen Type III Squareback
Filed Under (Volkswagen) by Station Wagon Finder on 12-17-2009
A true time capsule, this Volkswagen Squareback is unmodified and ad original as can be. Originally sold in Albany Oregon, it has stayed in the area its entire life and clearly has avoided the elements. With the exception of a few paint chip touch ups, the paint appears as it likely looked the day it rolled off the Volkswagen lot. Found on Ebay, a car this original is a rare find.

The interior is just as exceptional as the exterior with the only visible flaw the cracked dash. The owner says all the gauges, lights, turn signals and radio work fine. The steering is responsive and the car tracks straight with plenty of power on the freeway. A Volkswagen mechanic with 44 years of experience checked over the car and found no flaws,

hi,
I was trying to find a picture of the ’68 vw wagon”aquareback)
My father owned one of them, and bought it in Miami, florida, and drove it to North Carolina, when we moved back. It was a nice car, but one time, it almost flipped over, going around a steep curve. But it was very sturdy, for our family had my paprents, and three kids in the back seat! I can still remember the smell fo the brand new seats! It was so pretty, blue! I wished I could find one just like it, but my father sold it, and bought a old chrysler station wagon, it was larger for the family, and we went camping alot, and had more room, for the camping equipmewnt. the VW was too small for our big family, but it was very economical, my father was old fashioned, and very frugal, when it came to spending money, sylvia
My friend bought a bright green wagon such as this in Hawaii, around 1990. We drove it all over the place-it was a fun car to drive. When I say green, I mean “green” as in crayon color green! It was awesome. It also got us saluted as we drove on base Pear Harbor (Two enlisted 19 year olds) until an alert guard stopped two suspiciously yound Commanders! We purchased it from our commanding officer! Thanks for the wonderful memory. Dan
I had one exactly like that, except it had a ’67 engine with twin carburetors instead of fuel injection. I drove it from the end of ’79 to the end of ’83. It could go almost anywhere. It was amazing.
Looking to purchase. Is this available?
The car sold awhile back.
A light blue one of these was my very first car. I was 17 and my dad bought it for me used in 1975. I drove it until it literally fell apart. Two engines and more than 200,000 miles. 25+ mpg. Great in snow (Although heat was a problem) So cool to see one here!
